Pickups for a SG
« on: August 28, 2006, 07:03:07 PM »
Right my beloved SG Special need some new pickups, and a large student loan has came my way, so it's time.

I don't know what I want though, a bridge pick-up that roars while being able to do a biting funk tone clean and a neck that sounds warm when I get my strum on would be the main idea I think.

Nothing vintage sounding though, I hate the tones from the by-gone ages (no riff raffs for example).

Get a-suggestin', wont be upgrading for a while yet, so the more help the better.

Peace out.

Nailbombs?

You're gonna find that most of the pickups with warm tones are "from bygone eras".  That's kinda the point.

SG without the vintage style pickups

Mind you I think AC/DC do a great job of making a cutting sound with Angus' SG.

Yeah modern stuff could be Nailbombs, always thought the Rebel Yells would work better for mahogany as the fella who wanted the signature designed uses a LP
The more I learn the less I know!!

I've got some samples of a Crawler equipped Yamaha SG in the Players section. The guitar is a cross between a LP and a SG and that's what it sounds like too.

The clips are a bit bass heavy and mid cut. I use more mids these days for a tighter more pronounced sound.

VHII's! They sound great on a solid mahogany bodied guitar.
