nailbomb in a les paul
« on: August 20, 2006, 07:56:08 PM »
I've been considering the nailbomb for a while now because of its rich organic and unique tone. I play 80s metal stuff and classic rock. Considering my les paul and the pickup are quite middy, how would a nailbomb hold up in the  guitar? My guess is that it would still  be ok since to my ear it seems that a les paul has more lower mids and the nailbomb has more higher mids but I just wanted to get some more thoughts on this combination. this is so far the pickup that I'm leaning towards I'm just not sure how it would sound in my guitar.

thanks in advance

Chris George from Waysted and The Marshall Band plays a Les Paul with a Nailbomb in the bridge, it sounds awesome, go to his site and hear the clips!

I posted a review somewhere on this forum, but the best thing I can say about putting the NB a Les Paul is how it transformed the way I think about my own Les Paul:

Pre-Nailbomb is was a nice feeling guitar that was fun to play acoustically but disappointing plugged in.  I used to noodle around with it in the early morning with the amp off but rarely reached for it at any other time.

Post-Nailbomb every time I pick it up, the first thought in my head is :censored: MEEEETTTTTAAAAALLLLLL!!!!! :guitar4:  :) I just want to play the heaviest, most brutal riffs I can think of with the amp turned up as far as it will go.  That's not to say the NB is a one-trick pony - it has a fine clean sound & will pick up variations in your pick attack on lower gain settings - but it really shines on the lead channel.

So yes, IMO it works well in a Les Paul :)

its funny that you mention playing acoustically. that's exactly where i'm at with my les paul. I really hate plugging it in. It sounds much better unplugged. I seriously cannot remember the last time I plugged it in and I play quite frequently..:(

Ive got 2 LP's with Nailbombs.
indeed more 'mid' and rich sounding, lots of overtones.
less punch then ceramics pubs, but now i hear every note played!
