Hello ladies and gents. This is my first post on this forum so I suppose I should introduce myself.
My names Kaj and I'm fairly useless on the guitar, but I picked it up again after putting it down as a teenager and over the last couple of months I've been practicing until my fingers are sore. But now I'm definately getting better.
I have been working on building a guitar for a while (a double cut Les Paul) but I have put that on hold for a while until I can actually play a bit better. I'm also currently working on steel body resonators with a luthier who now builds full time. I would post a link up to his site, but could someone tell me that this is OK, I wouldn't want anyone to think that I was advertising or anything.
Recently I purchased a Patrick Eggle Berlin Anniversary direct from the Eggle factory (albeit through a good friend) for the bargin price of £150. It was made back in the time when Mr Eggle still owned the factory, the only thing that it needed was the masking tape removing from the fret board (which wasn't easy considering it had been sprayed over and left for about 10 years, buffing up and all the hardware being added. Oh and the cavity covers too, but nothing too hard.
I was going to buy a cheap guitar and use that to practice on as I didn't want the Eggle floating around my front room to be knocked over by the group of drunkards I call my mates. However, I've decided to get myself the Vox AD30VT and use the Eggle through that. This though means that I need some pickups, which is why I'm here. At the minute I've got some old Ibanez humbuckers to put in there for the time being. However, when the money comes about again (hopefully near Christmas) then I'll be looking around for the proper ones.
Now, I play all kinds of music (badly) so I want something versitile. I was going to wind my own and have built a pup winder to do this (out of mechano, a remote controlled car and a toy plane), but as they have to go on a good guitar, I want the good pickups.
I have been looking at the rebel yell pups, mainly due to the adds in the guitar mags. What really impressed me to be begin with was the little ray gun on the top of the pup (yes, I am that fickle) but looking in the shop, you don't seem to be able to buy it. Is this the case or am I missing something?
Can anyone help me with selecting a good pair of HB's? Like I said, I try to play loads of different styles from Django Reinhart to Lawn Mower Death (well maybe not that different but you get my drift).
Cheers guys, good forum, I'm off to look around some more. Thanks in advance for any help :band5:
