Yeah, phantom power interface would def. open up the choices for mic I guess. Could get the ever pop. shure SM57 then I guess lol.

Always depends how many tracks, effects etc etc.

Imagine I recorded with a 604 132 MHz on 32 tracks with real time delay and reverb, so the G4 should be OK. But then again OS etc are more demanding.

I think you should just get as much power, RAM and HD as you can get.

Audio interface I would get USB or FW, as otherwise they aren't flexible to be used on other machines maybe. Sound quality is really good on those usually (there are differences though).

What will be crucial is right software (use Logic) and a good mic/preamp.

Maybe sth like the Axetrak would be good to record. ...

I have been using Mac's for years. I cannot agree with the comment that apple abandon their products. The switch to Intel caused a fuss, but most new applications are Universal Binaries that work on both PPC and Intel. Not only that the vast bulk of Mac based software is PPC based. Even if I am wrong about Apple, the developer base supports legacy systems for many years.

I am not an Apple nut like a lot of Mac users, but I find my macs to be increibly stable and relaible. I really cannot remeber the last time my system froze or crashed, not only that it is so easy to use peripherals with macs, the whole driver thing is hardly ever a problem.
