What pickups to achieve this tone?
« on: September 08, 2006, 05:49:34 PM »
Yeah, another one of these... this is just for some guitar in somewhere in future
if anyone has heard the epic masterpiece of Symphony X, The Divine Wings Of Tragedy (the song, not the album)

I just wonder what pickups would nail the tone for the solo that hits in at about 10:00
the very clear, cutting through, sharp tone, I love it

I was thinking about Cold Sweats

any opinions? :)

EDIT: I gave the song another listen, basically it's all of the solos with the same tone... so just listen the whole song through (if you can take the massiveness of it ) :D
Metal is forever, but I still got the blues for you

I'll chuck the song on next time I'm upstairs but off the top of my head he plays an ESP M2 with EMG 81s so to match his guitar you'd be looking at miracle men.

I know the song, and Romeo's tone really well. (My band opened for Symphony X three times!)

I would definitely go with a Miracle Man, not the Cold Sweat.

WOAH!!
So you've met Symphony X?! oh my god, I've been waiting for the X to come to Finland for so long time... they visited here in 2002 when I didn't even know about them

so Miracle Men all the way?
how about "custom" Miracle Men like all the people has been hyping about the custom Warpigs
altho I don't even know what the custom means in the warpigs :D

also wasn't Miracle Man said as "THE Metallica pickup"? As Metallica is my all-time fav band I would be very thrilled to get MMs

EDIT: also, Romeo's tone is one of those to-die-for's, at least for me...

the 'custom' feature in the warpig means that it's built with a ceramic magnet instead of an alnico one.

It's definitely interesting.
Yes, Definitely Miracle Man.

I've met Romeo several times, as him and LePond used to hang out at Lamours all the time. Honestly, he's a very nice, humble guy. If you didn't know he was a guitar god, you would never know it from his demeanour! Same with LePond, too!!

This thread has inspired me to throw on my copy of V ...
Excuse me, I have some headbanging to do!! \m/

Haha, next time you'll meet him, tell them to convince a promoter from Finland so they'll come here on their next tour :D

alright, so MMs all the way then!
but somewhere in distant future tho :P
(I can't wait... Peavey 5150 II head and Peavey cab + a guitar loaded w/MMs... aahh...)

Jep, suomalaisiahan sitä... Oon kyllä huomannu sut mutta en oo vaivautunu mihinkään replyymään :P
ei taida kovin monella suomalaisella muutes BKPtä olla  :D

Just a bit of FYI, he now uses a dimarzio XN2 in the bridge of his Caparison signature model.

He claims to, anyway. Of all the times I've seen SX recently, he's not used a Caparison once! He always played his beat up ESPs ...

Interesting info, tho!
