Help Choosing Pickups
« on: October 09, 2006, 07:32:41 PM »
Hey,

I got really interested in the bare knuckles pickups but as there is so much choice and It's my first time I buy pickups myself I might need some help here. I'm going to replace the pickups in my ibanez rg (stock pickups: ibanez v8 & v7). I'm quite sure I want a nailbomb in the bridge position for a richer sound with more aggression. The biggest problem is the neck position, for the neck I want a pickup that can handle the typical clean neck tones, but also sounds good with a little overdrive. I'm not sure if I sould put a nailbomb in there too, my original thought (before I knew bare knuckles) was a dimarzio paf pro. Please help me out here.

Thanks in advance

Pieter-Jan

i'm in a similar position - i'm REALLY happy with my nailbomb in my ibanez's bridge position. I'm going for a VHII in the neck.

less output, hot-rodded PAF sound, great for cleans but also beautiful for overdriven tones 8)

I'm sure I've heard some great clean clips of the Nailbomb; I don't remember whether they were from the neck or not, but if the bridge produces good cleans, I'm sure the neck would .....

A Nailbomb calibrated set might do just fine; otherwise maybe an Abraxas/Crawler neck (a great neck pickup anyway, vintage feel but hotter than PAF, and the Abraxases and Crawlers are similar in DC resistance to the Nailbombs, only a little less hot.)
