Pickups for Ibanez S-Classic
« on: October 07, 2006, 02:49:15 PM »
I absolutely adore this guitar, but one day I was dumb enough to throw dual EMG 81's in it.  :P

I now want to rectify that mistake and I'm looking for the following in a pickup:

1) Well rounded...can do metal but also can clean up well.
2) COIL tapped...the guitar's stock pickups were 4 conductor on a 5-way switch.
3) In coil tapped position can possibly be used for funk...this guitar has THE best twang I've heard even acoustically which is probably due to the wrap around bridge...even the EMG 81 sounds good in the neck (nice and twangy)!

I'm thinking un-covered Nailbombs or Holy Divers. Pre-bare knuckle I was considering throwing a Duncan JB in the bridge and a 59 in the neck so I'm looking for that type of sound.

Thanks!

Oh yeah, guitar specs for those who haven't seen this guitar that Ibanez NEVER should have stopped producing:

1) Mahogany body
2) Maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 25.1 scale
3) Wrap-around bridge
4) One volume, one tone, five-way pickup selector
BKPs: Miracle Man, Cold Sweat neck, Ceramic Warpig, Mississippi Queens, Holy Divers

Yeah, from everything I've read it seems like Nailbombs would be it. How is the Nailbomb in the neck position?

I love the RG's too. Especially the new RGA321 and RGA121...those are amazing guitars! Here's mine BTW except it's dark ugly purple...but sounds amazing:

And it has an ebony fingerboard! I don't think Ibanez even makes guitars with anything but rosewood anymore.

Speaking of the Nailbomb, how is the tone, generally speaking? I have an MM bridge and CS neck in my Les Paul so I tend to like a somewhat bright sounding pickup.

NICE! My guitar teacher has one of those. The RGA321 is basically that guitar sans trem.

What pickups do you have in it...are they Nailbombs?

I would say Holy Diver in the bridge. If you want a great, open sounding HB in the neck, get the Stormy Monday.

could'nt comment on that as do not have JB's.
Was referring to him having EMG's and looking at Nailbombs and Holy Divers.
I maybe should have quantified I guess.
I don't give advice on stuff I don't own/hav'nt tried.

'1) Well rounded...can do metal but also can clean up well.
2) COIL tapped...the guitar's stock pickups were 4 conductor on a 5-way switch'

is more what I was commenting on.
