Would one use a 250 or 500 pot for best results?

Not sure you can even get a coil tap (you can't split a single coil pup!) on a Mississippi Queen any more.

Yes you can - I've got one on order! Just specify an MQ with coil tap and three conductor wiring.

I'll be using mine with the standard Gordon Smith pot, so I've no idea what that is! Gibson will have used a 300k or 500k pot on their P-90 guitars, so I'd go for a 500k.

You are thinking about coil splitting. That is when you have a humbucker and you bypass one of the coils to get a single coil sound.

A coil tap bypasses some of the windings for a lower output. It can be used on single coils also.

You can order a MQ with 3 wires for coil tapping, I was wondering what would work best with it. Stock is a 500k pot, single coils use a 250k.

I've read that P90s work better with 500K because even though they're single-coils they have high inductance, like humbuckers. Do I really understand what that means? I do not.

Must admit I've never experimented with 250Ks - I suppose they should make the P90s sound a little warmer. Might have been a good idea on my old Hamer Special, which had quite harsh-sounding Duncan P90s.

Well being that the 500k pots are already there I guess I will stay with them then; thanks for the imput. I guess if I feel I need to change the warmth I can always change to the 250k pot.

Excellant - That is the combo I am going to start off with for a Gibson SG. I have a couple of other guitars that will also be treated to BK's as soon as I sort out the funding.

I have one with coil split, I used a 250K (I'm pretty certain, but I've had it for about 18 months so I might be wrong!). But anyway you can listen to the difference the split makes.

I think he was aware of that (knowledgeable man that TO) but there was talk a coupla weeks ago where it was mentioned (for some reason) that Tim won't tap an MQ anymore - although we know this to be incorrect :drink:
