HELP with my custom guitar!!!
« on: October 14, 2006, 08:52:04 PM »
Ok guys, i'm now ready to go and get my dream guitar, a custom built fat strat which i will be speaking to jonathan from feline first thing tuesday morning!!!! I'm a bit stumped as to what hardware to choose though!

I want it based on a richie sambora strat (as i love this and think it is the guitar of all guitars!!!), and have decided to get it with a locking trem, nailbomb HSS set, but as this is my first custom guitar, i don't know what to get in terms of the hardware, such as the nut, the tuners etc etc etc....

i was wondering if any of you guys had had your own guitars built, and what you went...i'm after a kind of classic rock tone from it if you could help with the woods too.

Cheers, sorry about the essay!!!

Chris

If you have a locking trem, you probably want a locking nut or tuners too. I'm not sure about a Nailbomb for Classic Rock, Most people here will probably point you towards mules for that. I'm assuming by classic rock your Talking Slash, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy, Led Zep etc. They all used Les Pauls, so that would be Mahogany Body and Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard and a Maple Cap. However, Jonathan Will be able to advise you far better than me.
PS. Just checked up on who richie sambora is (im not a Bon Jovi fan) so maybe not mules after all... VHII perhaps? Although that should be a pickups section thread, woops

For a classic sound that also takes in a bit of Richie Sambora I'm more inclined to suggest the VH2, or maybe the Crawler, Rebel Yell or Holy Diver

The Crawler would help the superstrat sound most  like an LP

The VH2 would be good for early Bon Jovi as Sambora was a real Van Halen fan, although the fat midrange of the Rebel Yell kind of appeals too for that mid 80s vibe.

And the Holy Diver would be good for the mid era Jovi (New Jersey-Keep the faith)

At the end of the day we will always work with the player to get the right sound for the guitar
I look forward to discussing the options next week

Beech?

Not sure about that - we can discuss though
Two weeks sitting on a beach maybe!

I would be more likely to chose american red alder
classic strat tones - articulate and yet smooth- nice even frequency response
