My Nailbomb + Trilogy Suites arrived today and are installed
« on: November 04, 2006, 05:29:35 AM »
...but I haven't got to play them yet, all I did was do the screwdriver test to make sure they're working, and by the time I got the guitar restring, dad went to bed, so I'll have to wait until morning to try them.

I wasn't sure which singles to get, the Irish Tours or the Trilogy Suites.  I went with the Trilogy Suites based on Tim's recommendation, and also the fact that I may get a strat soon, and if I do, I will be loading it up with Irish Tours.

At least the guitar looks a whole lot better with the classic pole piece humbuckers....

I'll write more tomorrow and maybe even post some clips if I get time.

Okay so I've been playing for about three hours and my ears are ringing...

So I plug it in and set it to my distorted sound with my Les Paul.  My first thought was damn these things are mean... but there's something harsh sounding with all the controls around 12 o'clock.... oh wait, I have to back off the preamp volume a little.  The output of the Nailbomb is significantly more than the Rebel Yell, much more so than I expected.

The Trilogy Suites match the Nailbomb quite well.   I adjusted the height of all my pickups so they would be 2mm from the strings and the singles ended up being a little closer when fretting at the 24th and I didn't have to touch them from there as the volume balances perfectly with cleaner settings (although the Nailbomb seems to get louder faster when the gain goes up).

Also, the Nailbomb and Trilogy Suites seem to want almost the same exact EQ, and I can do a lot with both of them as well.  If you scoop down the mids, you can pull of something you'd expect more of a Miracle Man, and you can add mids to get to the Iron Maiden sound.

That sounds like a very cool set. I'm sure you have a blast with them. Keep those ears ringing.

That sounds pretty darn good from the description. I will keep an eye (or should I say Ear) out for the clips.

Hei Dean. i forgot to ask.
how do you compare the tightness of the bass on the nailbomb than the tightness of the bass of the Jb, and other SD pickups!?

JP, the bass is like 1000 times tighter than a JB and the mids are balanced and the highs extend out fully.

I'll be the first to say I find a JB like being followed around by an army of farting mexicans whenever you play.... too muddy and in a farty way.

I did another with it almost maxed out the next day though..... my ears were already ringing on saturday when I recorded the first batch so I wasn't turning the gain or MV up that high at that point...

O.k   i've been quiet long enough....

NB for Classic Rock >>>Check

Split to single....  The most cutting and ballsy single coil I've ever heard

Clean...  fullness  crispness  without shrillness...much bass, too

you can get most of these variations by just having a good volume/tone pot.

Oh, yeh, Bridge plus middle in a strat untapped ... twang balls

bridge tapped plus middle in a strat.......  more like a Tele with a little more grunt to be completely Fenderish, but cool and cutting w/ no icepick involved

And of course plenty of Dime,  Avenged 7Fold, Maiden  etc.   its all in the EQ  , Bro
Irish Tour/ Mule Set,    Apache Set... in Strats .... Nailbomb Bridge,Cold Sweat Neck in Ibanez S540
