Author Topic: Just ordered a Vox Valvetronix AD60VT! (Read 6526 times)

Finally decided on an amp after much waffling back and forth between choices (Matamp Minimat, Pod XT with an Atomic Reactor and so on...) and ordered a Vox Valvetronix AD60VT from Thomann.de.

60W is overkill for my apartment, but variable power output (down to 1W) should take care of that and this way I also have an amp for when I do get a chance to hook up with some friends. I also really wanted a 12" speaker, which I get now.

Apart from reliability, which apparently can be a little hit & miss, I've only heard good things about 'em. 600 Euros isn't too bad either and Thomann does offer a full 3 year warrenty on all their items, so if anything screws up I should hopefully be covered.

Feels real good to finally get a real amp, I've been stuck with a Peavey Rage 158 and a Zoom 505 pedal for ages now! :)

The Vox modeling amps are good
the forum has been a bit quiet in the last couple of days
there have been a lot of firework displays this week (Guy Fawkes night in UK)
so maybe thats why the lack of replies

Hm, I would have added another 80 Euros for the 120VT stereo version.

But anyway, good choice. I have a Tonelab which has same modeling and it rules. Our singer/rhythm guitarist has an AD50VT which is lower spec but still sounds very good, I sometimes have problems being heard with my Bogner head/4x12 as his open back combo really fills the room ...

Yea I did, I really wanted some versatility and that's something the Minimat just wouldn't give me. No one i've discussed this with has been able to get a convincing metal tone out of it no matter what pedals they've used, so I decided it just wasn't for me.

I saw no need for the 120W version as it'll be used in my apartment 99% of the time, so 60W was overkill as is.

True, the minimat probably couldnt do metal, but can the effects in the Valvetronix do it either?

Ive got a Vox Valvetronix AC30VT and have never turned it up full on gain (even in an empty village hall in the middle of nowhere) And I recon its great.. great tone and versaitility!!! Although I am looking at getting a half stack.. something like an engl, although I don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

Yea, I would have gone with an ENGL or Marshall too if I just had somewhere to play it. Not much point in having a big tube amp if you can never turn it up though! ;)

I'm lucky enough to be playing venues where I can use a great valve amp (phew, otherwise i would have been broke lol) hopefully getting a Laney GH100L (enough headroom for pur clean) in the next few weeks. I cant wait

Damn dude, I just bought a Hot Rod Deville and upgraded from a VOX AD30VT. I'm selling it now...good amp for a hybrid though.

I find the AD30VT too bassy on the clean channels (great for hi gain sounds) - I opened the back to let it breath a bit, which improved things except I lost definition in the bass - so I have a love hate thing with it.

We have an AD50 I think, in the recording studio. It's quite a nice amp for when I can't my JCM800 in the car. We recorded a really cool blues jam with it the other week - it was my strat with a Crawler & Mother's Milk into the AC30 model with some natural room reverb - sounded really cool. My bassist still has the recording, I shall see if I can get it off him sometime and post some clips up here, but he has been a little unreliable lately.

I think it's quite a nice amp, though I do miss my JCM800 for practice.

The amp showed up yesterday, pretty quick delivery all the way from Germany i think.

Everything works fine, it sounds nice, even at the low volumes I'm playing it at. Can't wait for an opportunity to really crank it up.

The models all have their own thing going, can't say how accurate they are, but they sound very cool in general. A little disappointed with the Mesa Rectifier model though, sounds a little wimpy, but it might just be that it doesn't work well at low volumes.

For cleans the "Boutique clean" model is awesome, and I've quickly taken to the "Modern UK" (Marshall JCM 2000 TSL, I believe) for heavily distorted tones, sounds great.
