Sound Card recommendations?
« on: November 04, 2006, 05:46:02 AM »
Hey guys, I need a sound card for an old machine, so I am thinking I will upgrade my desktop's sound card and put the X-Fi XtremeMusic into this old P3 box....

Requirements:
-Must be able to record fairly well
-Must work on Windows 2003 Server (I'm a diehard 2003 user, it's just so much faster and more stable than anything else)
-Should have two outputs.  One to go to an old Mcintosh receiver from about 1973-1975 and one for headphones (not a necessity however)

I was thinking of a Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro which is the top of the X-Fi line since I'm a gamer (obviously) and the X-Fi has nice, fast onboard processing.  They're supposed to have a superior DAC than all the others but does anyone know if they record acceptably?
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Rebel Yells + Les Paul = the Ultimate Rock Pickup.

1st question.   Budget?

Soundblaster cards are pretty rubbish for recording TBH, so depending on budget you should be able to get something far better.
