Quick Question

I was looking at the humbuckers and I was wondering what combo would get the best Thin Lizzy Sound because the tones in most of their songs are kickass. Especially the 'Cold Sweat' twin harmony solo    :twisted: .

At first I thought 'Emerald' because of their song, but then or thought 'Cold Sweat' because of their song that they did which had a really hot vintage tone and matches the description on the product page.

So maybe Cold Sweat Bridge and Emerald Neck or maybe even the other way round?!?

Or maybe something completely different?

I am not sure and dont worry its not another recommend me a combo thread  :P  its just something I have been pondering on...

The Emerald set was based around the hotter than PAF set that featured in Gibson LPcustoms and will do the Robbo sound just fine. The magnets are Alnico 5

The Cold Sweat set is aimed at the John Sykes sound. John had ceramic magnet Gibson Dirty Fingers pickups in his axe and Tim has come up with a design that captures that essence and more.

The biggest difference is going to be due to the magnet type - the sweat having a more metal approach with more cut and a tight bottom end whilst the Emerald will be a bit more full and bluesy sounding

MAybe a hybrid set would suit you , although the CS neck has a great blues sound anyway. And in a LP the body is full enough to stop the ceramic sounding thin

BK bridge and neck pickups are very different.  The Cold Sweat neck is Alnico V but the CS bridge is ceramic.  Also the Emerald neck will not have as much output as an Emerald bridge, as BK tends to balance the pickups in a set.

It all depends on which era of Thin Lizzy you like.  The Cold Sweat gets the John Sykes sound, but personally I actually prefer the earlier stuff.  I got the Emerald with an A4 Mule, but if John Sykes sound is what you like, then go with the Cold Sweat.  I am putting a CS with a Painkliller neck in one of my LP's (I should have it by December).   This combo puts ceramic magnets in both pickups.

To sum up the sound.

If I was to shove some pickups in (in theory) I would want to be able to get all the classic Lizzy tones such as:

Boys are back in town, Jailbreak, Dont Believe A Word, Killer on the Loose, Chinatown, Whiskey in the Jar,

And the hotter stuff like:

Cold Sweat, Are You Ready,

Listen to Cold Sweat and especially the solo and you will know what I mean  

Maybe a Emerald Bridge and Cold Sweat Neck

or

An Emerald or Cold Sweat Set??

How would an Emerald Bridge and Black Dog neck or Reversed be for things like Thin Lizzy, Zeppelin etc??
