Opinions on the Gibson Custom Shop VOS SG?
« on: November 24, 2006, 04:03:14 PM »
I've got my eye on one of these "Vintage Original Spec" SGs at the moment and having never played one I wondered if anyone on here had?  There don't seem to be any local to me to try out.

Any opinions?

If you like the feel and tone of an original SG from that era, then yes you will love it, however they are nice yes, but they are diffrent from a newer, more refined version today.

They are made as close to possible, seeing as how some manufactuers are out-of-buisness for the electronics, and are as good as can be compared to an original. What they do lack is the 'miles' an original would have, but they are damn fine for what they are.

I actually want a VOS 1959 LP Standard myself.

I've been recently shopping for an SG, and I tried the bottom-of-the-line Faded SG, a mid-level SG Standard, and a Custom Shop 1962 SG Custom Authentic (CA is the old "aging" process, VOS is the new).

There is no comparison, the Custom Shop SG, with a one-piece body and rounder neck, absolutely kills the other two as far as tone and playability go. I think that with a CS Gibson you will be less likely to be disappointed, but in case you are, you can always sell it and not lose any money on it.
