I'm fairly happy witht he Rio Grande BBQ's that I've been using in my SG's, but I'd like a little better definition and stronger harmonics. I usually stay away from super hot ceramics, but the Miracle Man is so tempting for my Les Paul. So, right now, I'm considering the MM, Holy Diver and Crawler for my Les Pauls, and maybe Warpigs or Holy Diver for my SG's. I really don't have a handle on where the Nailbomb fits in the spectrum though.

The Rio Grande BBQ might be most comparable to a BKP Abraxas or Crawler: similar tonality to a PAF, but hotter.

The Nailbombs are slightly hotter than the Crawlers and, though Alnico, I don't think they're really voiced with "vintage" vibe in mind.  I considered NBs for my LP, but ended up backing off to Tim's suggestion of Crawlers (I wanted the Crawler/Abraxas neck pup anyway!).  The NB is named after a Max Cavalera side project from Sepultura, if that gives some idea of its inspiration.

(I also have serious Warpig-lust :) but had to accept that given I basically have one guitar, the LP, the Warpigs weren't really going to be versatile enough for what I want to do.  Now, if I had a few more guitars .....   )

Thanks a lot Carlaz. I totally forgot about Max's band Nailbomb. I do like his tone...but it's not well suited for me. Thanks for the info on the Crawler and Abraxis too.

I think it's important to note that just because TIm named them after Max Cavalera's side project band that DOES NOT mean they will only do that tone well. I have a Nailbomb bridge/Mississippi Queen neck combo in my Silver Burst Les Paul and I can tell you that the Nailbomb is an extremely versatile pickup. It's deinfitely a very thick and dark (because of the LP) tone, I think the Nailbomb could easliy do all the bands you describe as I play everything from modern Metal (Trivium, Lamb of God, Opeth, Metallica) to vintage 80's/classic rock (Sabbath, Ozzy, old Metallica, Iron Maiden) and the nailbomb does them all in stride. It gets great cleans when you roll off the volume too.
