I'd really like to get a Mass or something. Which is the best Attenuator in your opinion (please only vote if you know it)

I Personally have a Hotplate - although i have heard good things of the weber mass if you plan to use the line out for recording then get the weber cos that has tone controls on the line out, the hot plate doesn't & i think the line out sounds very harsh & trebbly. if you plan to use the attenuator just to do just that then get the hotplate as it has a few more tone features to help compensate for the drop in volume. (plus the hot plate looks nicer) although the weber is more versatile if you plan to use it for more than 1 amp as it has switchable input ohms.

i hope that helps.

Own and use a Hot Plate. Accept no substitues.

And don't listen to the nay sayers, either. It's a great piece of kit.

i have weber mass. its great.

hot plate has a good rep also... the mass has more controls\options and is switchable, and built like a tank... costs less for more kit too :)

i think you will be happy with either of them

This is of interest to me as well, so can I add to the question WHY do they sound great?

I use the Koch Loadbox II. It's got lot's of features on it, the recording features are wicked man!

I've got to say that mic-ing your amp will record better than the outputs this thing has but mic-ing isn't always an option at home. The amp sounds monstrous when it's loud as the speakers need a fair amount of power through them to sound good. They do give you lots of control over big powerful gigging amps. There are a few Koch Combo's with these built into them now.

They basically let you drive your power tubes hard with your master volume cranked up with out the Db's, I.E volume. Tube amps sound better kranked but neighbours whinging can really spoil your vibe!

Well actually I should have phrased it: "Which loadbox makes your amp sound great?"

for pure amp sound then its the Hotplate from all the research i did before i bought mine. with the bright & deep switches you can counteract the apparent loss of high & low frequency with the drop in volume (there is a scientific term some sort of curve) also it has a noise suppressor switch. however for versatility - more than 1 ohm setting / tone controls on the line out then it's the weber. i struggled to find a weber in the UK though & didn't trust getting it couriered over from the states without it breaking. bought the THD & have no regrets - very happy with the results!!!

After an email conversation with Ted Weber I ordered the Mass Lite 100W.

I am not so interested in the tone controls for the line out as I'd rather apply EQ with the mixer and would run that through a Palmer anyway.

Key thing is that you have individual attenuator controls, one for mid/high and one for low/mid frequencies. I think that's very cool as it will work like an alternative Presence/Resonance section. Ted said there's no issue with running different cabs on it as long as the amp runs on 8 Ohm.

It's 210$ shipped, which means even after VAT/TAX it isn't even half of the THD, Koch or TAD.

enjoy!! you will be blown away by the difference one can make - letting you wind up your power valves to that "sweet spot" (starts just about 6 on my amp)

Hmm I have a gig tonight, should I or shouldn't I use it already?
