EQ pedals always a nice thing to have for a bit of extra scope, y'know, particularly in a metal context.

For example, if the rhythm guitarist is "scooped", you can go in "humped" for a solo, so you cut through, but I suppose it's just for that bit of extra precision.

By the way, if you get the chance to try the metal muff through a vc-30, any chance you could let me know how it goes, as I'm on the cusp of buying one.

OK thanks man, hmm its a bit of a gamble though as I don't know where I could test one out, certainly not with being able to crank it up and put the pedal in front of it. So just basically would a VC30 be better for metal than a LC30 and as regards speakers would it be advisable to swap for something more metal orientated? Sorry for all the questions but as I said its a weird situation to be in!

i'd have said the lc30 is better for metal, but I vastly prefer the vc30... which is strange.

best bet is trying them, unfortunately.

If you aren't too bothered about an all tube amp, the Laney LV300 could be an excellent bet. It's 3 channel, with a tube preamp, available as a one speaker or two speaker 120 watt combo, or a 120 watt head.

It's the replacement for the amp I currently use (a TF300), and if the tone on mine is anything to go by, this one should sound pretty damn good.

Also has the added bonus of being reasonably priced - the twin speaker combo can be had for about £260.

Worth checking out anyway. Hope this helps.
