Have been searching for a new set for my tele that I bought last year. It's a swamp ash body with rosewood fretboard. I pretty much live on the neck pickup, but I still want to buy a matched set. My musical tastes are very eclectic (Zeppelin, Phish, Bob Marley, Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Django, Scofield, Santana, Coltrane, Miles... the list is endless) so I need a pickup that will accomodate the wide range of sounds I want to call upon. I play through low wattage Fender tube amps that are on the edge of breakup and rely on overdrive to push my tone over the top. What I want is a pickup that will go from clean sparkling jazzy to gnarly overdriven with a fair amount of sustain. I am going to have my tech install a four-way switch as well and wanted to know if the model must be reverse wound to engage that fourth position effectively. The sets I'm considering are Country Boy (not sure if they will be powerful enough), Brown Sugar (is there a lot of midrange added?), or the Boss. I want to retain that textbook tele sound, but don't want this guitar to be a one trick pony. Thanks in advance for any advice.
