Pickup set for my PRS singlecut...
« on: January 31, 2007, 05:37:54 AM »
Hey guys,
I was wondering what some recomendations for my PRS singlecut.  The bridge has to be clear with some great top end and about mid-gain about 12-14k as far as DC resistance goes.  The neck Im looking for is something that would complement the bridge and is perfect for the slash type leads...any suggestions guys?  The amp I use is a splawn quickrod on gear 1 OD2 and I play mostly rock in the vain of Van Halen and GNR...

VHII or Rebel Yell would be my choice.

Might be worth mentioning that Slash used Alnico II HB's...

Crawlers.  It's about 15k on the bridge version, voiced like a hotter Mule (PAF-style) with a bit more midrange grunt.  The neck pup (7-something-k) is to die for, and you can get very smooth Slashy tones out of it.

Muzzzz is right, though, that Slash's pups are A2s, and not that hot. I'd consider the Crawlers for what you describe, though.

I would go: Rebel Yell Bridge with VHII or BlackDog Neck.

The RebelYell neck is very nice, but has a much lower output which is not giving as fluid leads as you might want from your neck. My Black Dog neck is giving that and I'd preseume the VHII would be a good neck match too.

The RY neck is lower output than the BD or VHII neck?  That's surprising.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Well, as said, VHII I am guessing. But I can definitely say that the BD gives you more of a fluid experience and higher perceived gain than the RY neck.
The RY set is great as it's the first humbucker set where I use the neck pickup for rhythm (that's what it says on the Les Paul switch, right).
The RY neck is great but requires you to really dig in compared to the bridge.

Good choice on the Mules.  The Splawn will have plenty of treble for you, so the Mules midrange should work really well with it.

Get some clips up here if you can!
