Did I make a good decision?
« on: January 14, 2007, 09:08:12 AM »
So currently in my wolfgang i have a duncan custom custom in the bridge and a pearly gates in the neck.  I really pretty unsatisfied with the Custom Custom because it lacks a midrange character but I like the output level and the pearly gates is pretty weak sounding as far as tone goes, but it cleans up pretty nicely.  I decided to replace them with some bareknuckles but couldnt decide on what I wanted.  I found the comments about the cold sweats to be encouraging especially when talking about their output range and tonal character but I've got buyer's remorse/doubt running rampant right now.  So I am faced with two or three decisions.  I could put them in the Wolf and hope they sound good.  I could return and get another set, or I could put them in another guitar of mine.  I play mostly rock/early Van Halen but the VHII is a little low on the output level and I have that in another guitar anyways, the RY's were a little too high of an output...anyone want to help a brother out?

I am not sure whether you have actually received and installed them yet but I would say, do so and then decide whether it was a mistake. You made an initial choice based upon what you had read about the varioius types availabe and chose accordingly-you might find that you were right-put them in the Wolf and see what you think.

Tim has Rebel Yell's in his Wolfgang and it sounds great.  The Cold Sweat will drive more than the Rebel Yell as it is a Ceramic magnet in the bridge.  Try the Cold Sweats if they are on the way.  Did you talk to Tim about what you wanted first?  If so, I am sure that they will do the job for you.

If you've not put them in the guitar yet, this is all academic. Install them and then judge for yourself. The proof is in the playing, as they say.

don't think you made a bad decision. there is no bad decisions with BKPs ..

i kinda went through the same, when i bought the warpig.. it was sitting on the shelf for a couple of months and i started second guessing the purchase. when i got the trilogy, to put in the guitar along with the warpig i was blown away.
