irish tours vs. trilogy suite
« on: January 25, 2007, 02:31:21 AM »
Anyone have any thoughts about why the HSS set for miracle man comes with the trilogy(high output) and the nailbomb set comes with irish tours(lower output)  when the mm and nb have similar outputs?  I am considering asking Tim for the nb with trilogy but if nb will sound better/better balanced with the irish tours, i want to know that  before i make my final choice.

Also will the humbucker in a HSS set be four conductor or 2?

I think the MM has a more compressed sound than the NB so it balances well with the Trilogies, but there's no reason why you couldn't have NB & Trilogies if you want. As far as conductor you can choose which you prefer when you order.

As gingertaff says - i'll add that there's a box when you order to type what conductor wires you want - also any custom points like coil tap rather then split, etc.  If in doubt telephone.
BKPS: Milks, P90s, Apaches, Mississippi Queens, Mules, PG Blues, BG FP 50s, e.60s strat custom set

The Miracle Man is hotter than the Nailbomb. If I remember correctly it's the hottest BKP model. However Trilogies will probably be fine with a Nailbomb. :)

I would order a 4 conductor in a HSS set for the 2nd position in a 5 way switch (outer humbucker coil in parallel with middle pickup)

I think the initial recommendations would be better suited as although the resistance in the MM is lower, the output is far greater because of the ceramic magnet.
BKPS: Cryogenic Apache set, Mule set, Riff Raff, Stormy Monday.

There is also the issue of the uppermidrange of each humbucker. Like gingataff said, the tonal balance between the Trilogy and the Miracle Man is well suited, as is the Nailbomb/Irish Tour combo.

That being said, I have a Miracle man/Irish Tour combo in my Kamikaze, as I wanted a vintage style neck pup, and a VHII/Trilogy Suite combo in another guitar. Looks like it would work better the other way on paper, but they both sound great and there are no volume drop issues between the pickups.

I have the Nailbomb and Trilogys...

I am probably going to end up replacing them with Irish Tours as my hopes of buying a strat and loading it with Irish Tours is a very long ways away.... and my styles have been changing as well.

I was stuck in the same boat for a long time.  I knew I was getting a Nailbomb, but I couldn't make up my mind between the two single coils.  What Tim told me is probably the best way to explain it.  They both work with the Nailbomb, but it comes down to vintage vs. modern.  If you want to shred get Trilogy Suites and if you want a more classic fat single coil get Irish Tours.
Real men turn their volume to 11!

Thanks guys that helps a lot.  For now i think i will order nb/cs for my jackson soloist and wait on buying the HSS set.  If the nb bomb doesnt sound right in the soloist i will put it in the jackson pro and get a set of either irish tours or trilogy suites(cant make up my mind  )

I had Irish tours, real nice sound but break up a bit easy for my liking. I needed a loud singlecoil to match the volume of my humbucker so got a Trilogy. The Trilogy is brilliant it sounds brilliant clean and doesn't break up easily. I would say Trilogy all the way, but if you want that SRV type twangy tone go for Irish Tours.
