Marshall Amp Mods UK
« on: January 16, 2007, 09:58:01 PM »
Hey there,

I've decided to go for some mods on one of my old Marshall heads. I really love the sound of Doug Aldrich's live and studio tracks (modded by Mark Cameron). Unfortunately it just isn't practical for me to send the Marshall over to the US to be worked on, plus from what I see he has an enormous waiting list.

Basically I'm trying to achieve a good John Sykes/Doug Aldrich Marshall sound and I'm looking for someone who knows anyone in the UK able to do some mods to my Marshall.

Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Jake  :D

A lot of those John Sykes Marshall sounds (Whitesnake era) are actually Mesa/Boogies, although I think he's using Marshall these days.

Thanks for the help guys. Heavier Than Hell, I'm looking to get a load more gain from my jcm800 2204 as it has nowhere near enough for my needs, would also be good to get a more sensitive and flexible eq.

Oh, the John Sykes tone i was mainly refering to was his modded 50 watt jcm 800's that hes been using recently with thin lizzy. Was great!!

Cheers!

more gain is always easy (when you know how).  my fave mod gives the amp more gain and then I prescribe one of my modded SD-1s for further dirt.

I've used this rig myself and a mate of mine also has this rig for the past four years - he swears by it & keeps buying expensive amps he thinks will be better (but they never are).

With the mods I do on 2203/2204s you can do early Metallica/Slayer stuff.  With the modded SD-1 switched in you can get full on metal levels of gain out of it.

I personally like 6550s in these amps too as it sounds much ballsier and gives a bigger, tighter bass end.
