Interesting idea! I had a set of noiseless Kinmans and although they sounded alright they didn't do it for me at all. I'm still not sure these p'ups would sound exactly like a true Strat style single coil because of the way they're wound and the smaller bobbins - just like the way P-90 pickups sound different because of the larger bobbins.

it seems so obvious - if it sounds that great then i'm sure most manufacturers would already offer these...

I've not tried those - but Curtis Novaks are good pickups, handmade, scatterwound - I heard a friend's Jazzmaster and they really had a nice tone, especially compared to the original Jap Fender pups.

It's basically the same principle as a P-Bass or Fender Electric XII pickup, I suppose. And there were the "domino" pickups in second-series PRS EGs, and G&L's Z-Coil pickups.

The difference is, all those pickups had the two half-coils offset into a "stepped" shape. I wonder if Curtis Novak has had to compromise a bit on the number of winds to get the two coils next to each other? :?

He's got some great inventive stuff on his site, like the P90 in a Melody Maker cover. I like the look of his humbucking Tele pickup, and it's not too expensive either.
