H-S-H sets?
« on: February 11, 2007, 05:36:17 PM »
Well, I've been looking around a bit, because I'm looking for new pickups in my Ibanez RG (did already open another topic, but that was mainly about what kind of pickups I'd need for my guitar).
Thing is, my guitar has a H-S-H configuration, and all I can find in the shop are H-H sets, H-S-S or S-S-S.
I don't see any singlecoils that are sold separately either...

So I'm wondering what the possibilities are.
Do you sell H-S-H sets on request? And if so, what would they cost, and what options would I have?

I don't believe there are any 'official' HSH sets- you'd simply order a calibrated HH set with a single (middle) single coil.

I was thinking about asking for an HSH prewired pickguard next time i ordered for my new Ibanez RG. Not sure if Tim would do it though.

Tim mentioned having HSH sets but it never came to be. I think the whole making the best pickups on the planet has them preoccupied. But just order a HH set and order a single and mention it to them when ordering it's for HSH set. Slowhands seem popular for this application by the way.

Ah riight, I didn't notice that you can order the single coils separately... but yea, I could do that.
Then all I need to know is which :)
It's for an RG570 made out of alder, with a maple top, and no pickguard (pickups mounted directly on the body).
So it's a bit of an unusual guitar, I have no idea what would sound good.

A lot of people say the original V7-S1-V8 pickups are quite muddy and lack definition, but I actually liked them... Perhaps they work better in my guitar than in most... Or my taste for tone is not like the usual RG player :)

I have an Ibanez body with a kahler trem and Warmoth neck.  For the H-S-H on it I have Nailbomb/Irish Tour/Cold Sweat.  It is a great combination with lots of versatility.
So many pickups, so little time

I'm considering a set of Rebel Yells (would they work okay with alder+maple? I think I'm sorta after a PAF/PAF Pro sound, tight yet warm, not too much output, say medium).
VHII also sounds like it could be for me.
Would the Slowhand be a good middle pickup for that?
I'd like a funky out-of-phase tone, which still has a bit of low-end. I mostly use a split neck bucker + middle for that.
