Takeuchi TRS-101
« on: June 01, 2007, 01:07:30 PM »
hi all,

i cruised round /alot/ of guitar shops here in nyc looking for a floyd.

the only one i could find is a TRS-101 trem. I was somewhat suspicious, because it appears to have no hardened steel knife edge inserts. Didn't trust the assistant, who obviously told me it was a really good unit.

i just googled around a bit for this trem. some people reckon its as good as a real OFR or schaller/gotoh. some people reckon its not the worst trem, but its far from perfect.

obviously i dont want to mess around with a mediocre trem, so i was wondering if any forumers have any thoughts on this model? shall i go back and pick it up, or shall i save my $$?

cheers ;)

I have had one on my Charvel model 6 for 18 years and it works just fine!

It cost me 90 quid back then.

The steel edges, they could still be hardened just by heating them to red hot and quenching it in water, which is all steel hardening amounts to anyway.

The TRS 101 is kind of one of the best of the rest

The ones of the Licsensed ones which are any good are the
Gotoh
Ping
Techeuchi TRS101
Floyd Rose 2/Schaller
Ibanez Edge and Lo Pro Edge

On the TRS I find that the arm fitting if still like the old style screw in one was a pain - they may have changed it to the pop in one now

I would still rather have an original Floyd over and above any of them though

it was 140->160 bucks... good price.

mmm, but feline is persuading me at the moment - think i'll hold out for a schaller or OFR.

that is unless some more positive opinions about the trs101. if your buying at the top of the market, i'd rather not take any risks.
