Not sure what pickups to go for...
« on: February 24, 2007, 02:29:50 PM »
Hey guys, need a little help choosing new pickups (my first ever Bareknuckles!) My setup is Schecter S-1 Elite -> ENGL Screamer. I play mainly hard rock, punk, hardcore, but I'm not after a really creamy, saturated tone. I like a big, wide, raw, aggresive sound. Obviously I'm looking for clarity, but I don't want a really tight, narrow, fat and saturated tone. I'm looking for something that will really snarl in the bridge, that I can use with a little reverb to make palm mutes stand out and jump off the fretboard. In the neck I'm looking for a creamier lead tone, however, to form a distinction from the bridge sound, and I also use my neck for cleans, so it'd have to handle those well...

Any suggestions? At the moment I'm thinking Miracle Man/Cold Sweat, but hey, I'm new here so I could be wrong! Thanks!

cold sweat will probably work in the neck, yes
BUT
The Miracle Man sounds wayyy too tight for you, my friend. it's more of a thrash metal pickup.... very tight.

someone else recommend this guy something for the bridge please?

Cool, thanks man. Of those, the Rebel Yell seems the best choice... What do others reckon?

^ I thought about the Riff Raff. I own a Riff Raff bridge (with a Stormy Monday neck) in a Les Paul. I think that you would have to work maybe a little too hard with the Riff Raff. It's also more 'angular' in sound than the Crawler or Black Dog; not as euphonic sounding.

Just to add, I just listened to Steve's clip of his Cold Sweat set... That bridge position Cold Sweat sounds brutal... What does anyone think of a Cold Sweat set?

It's a great set, but I always equate the Cold Sweat with classic metal. I have a Cold Sweat bridge, not the neck pup.

So you'd recommend a Rebel Yell bridge and a Cold Sweat neck?

proud owner of rebs....the reb yell neck is also awesome-a dynamic duo, indeed-I dropped them into a 2002 Paul standard and I use this axe as my "all arounder"-from classic rock to scooped out metal..it lights my fire!

The Cold Sweat and Rebel Yell have very similar neck pickups. You might as well get the Rebel Yell set.
