Burnt Covers?

How do they do the burnt chrome effect on their covers? I know they do camo by grinding at different angles but what about the burn?

I assume he puts a soldering iron or oxyacetylene torch to a chrome plated cover.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

You are correct but he also once it's red hot he dunks it in water.
