Holy Diver solo over clean (bit of Irish Tour too)
« on: January 05, 2007, 08:35:28 PM »
Just recorded a section of one of my songs using mainly Holy Diver (rather than just about every BKP I own ).

There are several production/playing nasties, not least the terribly scr@ppy rendition of the solo itself.  Part of the reason I started messing around with this was that I was never happy with the solo (it was a theoretical idea in my head that I've never been able to make the timing work or play exactly the same twice running).   I wanted to try recording it as a clean solo, so I knocked up a backing track & posted my first attempt at it here  - over the last week or so I've tried all sorts of things & just couldn't get it to work for me.  So here is a recording of the original solo - & an HD lead demo that might hopefully be helpful in making someone choose the mighty Holy Diver :D

The cleans are a Holy Diver neck & an Irish Tour mid + neck, then an HD neck & an IT neck, then HD bridge (x3 ) + IT middle.  The leads are HD bridge all the way.

Guitars: Jackson RR1T (HD set) & Warmoth korina strat (HD/IT hss set)
Amp: Mesa Rect-o-verb 50w head, Mesa 2x12" cab (V30)
FX: TC Electronic G-Major (reverb/delay), MXR M134 (chorus)
Mic: Sennheiser E906

Enjoy :)

Wow. I think I know what pickups I'm getting for my strat (whenever I sort out the intonation problems)! Sounded perfect, much better than your older clips which sounded a bit muddier/dark to me. The cleans were really nice aswell, and people say V30s are only good for high gain?!

Could you do a clip of some 80s hard rock/metal style stuff (think Van Halen, Whitesnake, Dio etc) of the HD bridge just doing some chords and stuff? Thanks

Wow, that nails the Justice/Black album Metallica lead tones perfectly. WOW. So much for the $%&#ing Miracle Man.

Outstanding clips! It seems the Holy Diver really cuts through for leads. My initial assumption was that it *may* lack top end, but that's clearly not the case!

You should make this into a proper instrumental song, or a proper song with vocals, the tones and music on this are exquisite!!
