A word of happyness about the Rebel Yells
« on: February 23, 2007, 02:15:24 PM »
Hey

After quite a long wait I finally got my guitar (rg 1570) back from groovestreet (Brussels) with a rebel yell calibrated set installed. I've been playing my guitar for over an hour now and now the strings aren't that new anymore these pickups really are heaven! The crunch in them is totally awesome, it really punches. I've tested it with both my zvex nano head and my vox modelling amp. The pickups sound best with the nano head but they also made my vox sound decent.

Great Pickups!

I think "punch" is the word that springs to mind for the RYs!  :D

How much did Edwyn charge you for the installation? Is the soldering and all well done? I might wanna give it a try as I don't really yet have a good adress to bring my guitar to.

How long did it take for the installation?

Edwin chared me €80 for the installation, it was done very well! The soldering looks very nice. He even polished my neck cleaned the guitar etc. Once he received the pickups the installation took only 2 days.

Very happy with service etc.

I like to chime in here :)

I have the RY set in my Gibson R9 for about two weeks.
I tried some other boutique pickups before but these are here to stay.

Sweet warm tone with definition and punch. I love the way they sound when lowering the volume of the guitar. A nice thick warm tone (reminds me of something like Santana).

I like the orginal Burstbuckers but they sounds a bit harsh compared to the RY's. The RY are far more versatile because they sound great with any volume setting on my guitar.

What kind of music are you playing with the Rebel Yell? I am asking because I want to replace the pups in my LP Studio and thought from the sound clip it could be what I am looking for to play rock, hard rock and metal (think Alice in Chains)

@Jazz Rock: I'm in a coverband that plays Classic Rock (Think Born to be wild), bluesrock, blues and ballads with our own twist. The pups give me nice harmonics and the leads sound "singing" in stead of yelling.
They are more modern sounding then the BB's. BB's are more for Classic Rock I guess the RY's are more for modern Hardrock. I love them because they are verstatile. I turn my guitarvolume down and I still have a nice fat tone.

I think the Rebels can well do any kind of rock, as long as mids are involved (I reckon they might not be as great for scooped metal). They are also great when played clean.

However, for Alice in Chain in particular, you might want to get sth a tad lass meaty - could be Mules, could be VHIIs or Black Dogs - in doubt check with Tim
