Tayden 15" speaker !!!
« on: June 24, 2010, 10:08:52 AM »
I've had this speaker hooked up to my Bandmaster Reverb for a week now and it's superb.
The clean sound is really rich and warm but with good top end and overdrive and fuzz sound great through it . The best thing is how the speaker responds to dynamics, it really allows for expressive playing - other speakers I've tried have tended to have this upper mid spike (I think) where higher notes could get a bit painful but this one doesn't seem to do that. The neck pickup (P90's) is far and away the best I've heard it and mid-position has a real twang to it.
I bought it through Wienbrock amps because I wanted the same one that Tayden make for  them, i.e. 100w with an aluminium dust cap, but mine has the standard mounting holes.

I tried my first Tayden the other day at Martin MJW's, it was their 12" Greenback I think and it sounded great.  So much so I'll probably choose them when I order my 2x12.  So now my speaker GAS has gone....

Has anyone tried a Tayden 12" with a Fender type amp?
I've got a 2x12 with Celestion gold and G12H30 and that's where I'm getting the upper mid spike, 'though more from the G12 than gold. Had them over a year now so should be pretty broken in-  the Tayden sounds broken in already.

Oh yeah, I was thinking it was a 4x10 combo.
So, Horsehead I know that the bassman isn't one of fender's sparkly amps but do you reckon those speakers are good for cleans and twangy stuff?

Depends on the era, Blackface & Silverface have a 2x12 cab.

Well there are quite a few different 12" models, have a look at the clips here on the JPF Amps website

I think you could get plenty of twang out of the right model

Our sound clips were done with a Marshall 20 W head.

I've not had much experience of using Tayden speakers in Fender amps, but have had good results with Retro 55s, and True Brits in Fender combos.

The Smooth also is very nice, especially to tame a trebley amp.

As Frank suggested the retro's & True Brits would be perfect. I'm predominately a clean player & then add gain via pedals, and the speakers sound loverly & warm, enough sparkly to keep it interesting but with enough mids to cut through.
