Anyone try a BK pickup in a Carvin 7 string yet?
« on: March 03, 2007, 01:46:32 AM »
I just recently bought a Carvin DC727C 7 string and it's an amazingly nice guitar.
However the bridge pick up is a little thin and bright sounding for what I want.
the guitar is a neck thru all mahogany/neck/wings with a quilted maple top and a birdseye maple board.
I'm thinking Miracle man7? any other suggestions?
I'm looking for a fatter sound but I still want it very crunchy.
I've got a 5150 and a B-52 At 100 with a Marshall top with Greenbacks in it.
also does anyone here know if I can get a BK 7 string pickup in zebra or creme?
it will be going  into this guitar.

can I be the devil on your shoulder?

Dude, you are at every forum I've been to haha. Still, can't get enough of that dc of yours :) I ordered a dc 727 and want to put in a nailbomb 7 in the neck and a ceramic war pig in the bridge. Yet, mine will be alder body with maple neck and ebony fretboard. For your mahogany guitar, the MM would be great. It should balance out well with the brightness of the MM. Idk about color options but whatever you choose will look great in that guitar.

Great looking guitar.

Sorry, I don't know from 7-strings, though.

  I know ever since I got into 7 string guitars last summer, I've been logging on all over the place. are you over on SS.org?
Yours sounds like it will kick some but.
Have you looked into what we need to do to get a Bk to fit into a Carvin route?
BTW said said brightness? is the MM a bright pick up?
Even with all mahogany my Carvin is still too bright.
their p/us are very bright, I'm looking to fatten up my sound yet keep it defined.
Nevemore's "Dead head in a Dead world" tone is what I'm kind of after with this guitar.

the maple top and maple fretboard are making it brighter too. the thickness issue is probably just a pickup thing though. oh, and as far as I know, tim can make you 7-string versions of whatever pickups you want. I remember asking what pickups chris broderick (great 7-string player) used, and Tim said he uses a nailbomb 7 bridge, coldsweat 7 bridge, and two coldsweat necks in ibanez rg 7 strings... so, I'm pretty sure he could make 7 string versions for you.

by the way, love your guitar. if I ever get a 7 string, I'm pretty sure I want it to be a carvin. :)

as said above, BKP make 7 string versions of all their humbuckers, however they are only available with black bobbins.  apparently noone makes coloured bobbons or covers for seven strings.
cry HAVOC!! and let slip the pigs of war!!!

I am not at ss.org, never even heard of it. I ordered my carvin from the hollywood store and the carvin employee is also a luthier. the store offers 1 year free service, maintenance, and any other work needed on the guitar. i told him there was a chance the BK pickups I wanted to put in the carvin wont fit and he said if he cant get them to fit in the guitar at work he will take it to his shop over night and do the routing, etc.

A ss.org brother!! :D

The one thing is that Carvin pickup routes tend to be small. You might have to route it out a bit.

The Miracle Man should sound bad ass in that guitar, IMHO.

I have a Carvin 6 string and they do tend to sound bright for whatever reason.

Add one more for the sevenstring.org BKP fan club!

I am in the same predicament as you. Ijust got my Carvin a week ago and I have already put in my order for a cWP and CS neck. If they don't fit in Carvin's tiny routing, I guess I am just going to reroute it (not something I am looking forward to)

But, I want to hear that thing with some BKPs!
