A whole new appreciation of the VHII.

I've had the VHII installed in my Strat for several weeks now, but have not got around to posting a review on Harmony Central simply because, despite liking the tone of the pickup, I could not help but think that something was missing.

Knowing that from the descriptions I felt I had made the right choice, when played through an amp clean the top and bass response seemed 'spongy', not at all what I was expecting. :(  This was not what I had come to expect from BKP, but also something in the back of my mind something was telling me that the pickup was not the problem.

So last night things came to a head. I took the scratchplate off the Strat and too a look at what was going inside, trawled the net for wiring diagrams that included the TBX tone control and finally found the error that I had commited. 8)

Two minutes with the soldering iron and WOOO! :) Suddenly the bass and treble response is more what I was expecting and the tone has improved dramatically. In fact, I have been playing the guitar non stop all day, through my little VHT it sounds amazing! Compared to my Super Distortion equiped HM Strat the treble is not as harsh, the midrange infinately more musical and suddenly I sound like early EVH without the talent! Which is exactly what I was expecting! :D

It's amazing what happens when you sit down and wire the thing up properly!

I found the same thing with my VHII; when put into a Strat, the resemblence to the early EVH tone is uncanny. Goes to show you, Tim knows his PAF style pickups!!!

TO,

At rehersal last night I just used the VHT Pitbull 45 combo into the VHT 2x12 cab and the Fulldrive 2 on the floor and teh VHII equipped Strat. The other guitarist could not get over the tone, it was simply amazing! Very smooth, it was all meat with no filler. I took three guitars with me but used the black Strat all night. :-)
