Not necessarily, but it has a part in it. If you don't do heavy palm muting, you will get a lot of overhang from low notes. I think that the speaker cabinet is the part that determines how fast/tight or slow/flabby the bass will be.

yeah, that too, lol. Any time I make any recommendation, I'm assuming  that the guy (or girl)'s technique is up to the job.

definitely agreed about the cabs.

and cheers mark.

mesas are NOT TIGHT.  They are not designed to be tight, and probably never will be, they do sound tight at bedroom levels but once you bring up the volume it all goes to spongy.  Bogner Uberschall is decent, but thats a $%&#load of cash to dish out.  Engl savage isnt as tight as the power ball ;)

my knowledge in order of crazy tightness

Engl Powerball  (tightest you will ever get)
Engl Fireball (a powerball with half the wattage and less channels)
VHT Pitbull
Engl savage (i dont know if it should be before the pitbull though...)
peavey 5150
Engl SE

throw any of these on a VHT, mesa, or orange cabinet, and you'll have a tight ass monster.
my maxon OD 808 really DOES make poop sound good

i heard a VHT pitbull combo last week because i am searching for
a new amp.

i have a mesa boogie DC-5 right now

VHT is tight................mesa is not

Also the VHT has a fat warm drive.......
Mesa has only tons of gain that means that you can play only metal with my boogie ....nothing more.

Maybe VHT will be my next amp.

the dc-5 is more of that spongy sound-night and day when compared to a mark series(not rectifier..) through the proper cab-mine sounds gooodntite running at high volumes but my cabs are ported and they have massive ev speakers- as always, play through one first-i believe you would be happy with the ones listed above

The Powerball is a tight sounding amp.It has lots of  lows ,wich are well focused and not farting!
the Fireball is the best sounding ENGL IMHO ,and has more character tan the Powerball.
The Blackmore sig is just an amazing amp ,but tightness is not it's major strength. But not loose as Recto IMHO.
BTW ,VH4 is the tightest Rythm machine ever i heard. The speed picked Powerchords are really really clear ,and present! The Powerball is very close to that!
The Rockverb 50 was surprisingly tight too.But you need the dedicated cab for it!2x12's sound allways tighter for my ears.

Uberschalls are not tight. They are only supposed to be slightly tighter than rectos, and that's not saying much.

And the guy saying mesas aren't tight.... they were talking about the mark iv... which is not the same as the rectos at all. way tighter.

+1

in fact, the slightly loose feeling is what makes them cool - IMHO
