Re-laquering a LP ... is this price reasonable?
« on: April 30, 2007, 05:15:03 PM »
My friend has an Epi LP which is signed by all of GnR.
He's been told a 100 pounds to have it re-laquered to protect the signatures ... he's asked if this is reasonable. Anyone out there know if this sounds right, or is he being screwed?

Sounds well within reason
To do a complete respray on a LP would be £300+ usually
If the paint guy has to also ensure that the signatures are not dissolved by the solvent in the paint it seems to be fair

just to echo what jonathan has said - its well worth making sure the lacquer and pen used for signiture will be compatible  - i would make sure whoever was doing the re-spray had a pen the same as was used for the signiture so they could check compatibility on csrap before spraying onto the guitar.

£100 seems very reasonable to me.

Thanks for the feedback guys :)

Regards the pen, the guitar was bought for him by his girlfriend and its was already signed. She got it off eBay (with appropriate proof of genuity apparently). And worse, I think different pens were used as the sigs were collected over a few weeks.

I guess they should test the laquer on small sections of the sigs first to be safe!

Wow, that sounds like £100 worth spending... as long as you mean the REAL GnR lineup and not the current one.

I think it has Duff, Matt, Axl, Slash and Izzy ... not bad! And what a present from your woman. He's too scared to play it at all (or even touch it really) at the moment in case a signature rubs off.

Well in that case £100 is worth it!
