I've read quite a few places that this is a very useful DVD to get, but i can't find it anywhere for less that about £40, does anyone know anywhere that i can get it for cheaper?

Amazon has some links to used ones, other than that just waiting for a  deal on ebay is probably the best bet.  :)

The ones on Amazon are are only compatible with American DVD players, and I'm assuming that my laptop won't be able to run it.

Does anyone know if there are actually any that are compatible with English DVD players? or, even better, would my laptop be able to play one of the £17 American ones?

For your DVD player do a quick google search to see if your machine is multi region.

For your laptop (assuming it's a PC) this is the best option http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html as not only does it allow you to play any DVD region, it also allows you to jump past the adverts and all that sh1t. It also has a couple of other side effects if you use it in conjunction with the package CloneDVD (but I would not wish to encourage any wrong doing)

If you live in the UK then I'd recommend joining LOVEFILM.  They have the Petrucci DVD and as they do a free 14 day trial you will be able to rent it out for free to see if you like it before buying.  They also have the full range of 'Lick Library' dvd's that are pretty good too.

The one problem with that is that i'm only 16, so i'd need to persuade my mum to join.
