I was going to make (in the loosest sense possible) my own next strat, but these babies are making me GAS for one. The '62 looks likeliest for me with a lovely rosewood board, but at £1399 wouldn't I be as well buying the parts & putting it together on my own?

I'll give you a little tip, my Dad is in the process of making his third parts-strat, each of which he has sold for sometimes more than double what he paid in total. Ebay is your friend on this. You could make something that would absolutely slay that one above for less than £300-400, no kidding. The amount of Strat parts on ebay is incredible. Keep yourself open to parts from Mighty Mite etc as well. Strat pickups go very cheap on there as do non-vintage bodies. Just have a good budget for the neck/tuners.

I'd be getting a set of irish tours with a reverse wound middle pickup I think. I was basically going to do that, just to say that I've done it!

You could easily put together a strat for half that price that'd match that one! Plus it'd be fun - I can't wait to get started on my custom tele project  :D

p.s. what's this GAS thing I keep seeing so much of? I can't keep up with all the acronyms you kids use

Hey SG had a look at the axes-r-us web site...the bodies are a bit...ahem...bland aren't they? I was thinking of buying the body & neck from warmoth, anyone know of a good english version or is it worth buying from warmoth? Oh then who does body spraying?
