Pickup choice - very undecided
« on: June 12, 2007, 11:16:03 PM »
I'm looking to acquire a new guitar in the near future. I'm seriously considering the Fernandes Ravelle Deluxe - the one without the (fairly useless imo) sustainer contraption. Now obviously said instrument will need BKPs (otherwise it'll be rejected in favour of my Holy Divered strat), but I'm in a quandry as to what to choose - isn't it always the way

Basically, I want it to be able to do the whole GNR thing (think Appetite for Destruction), but I'm also wanting it to be able to cope with some of the higher gain stuff (nothing too intense - maybe some earlyish Metallica, but that may even be pushing it).

Now after listening to the clips in the players forum, I reckon a set of Rebel Yells, Cold Sweats, Abraxas, Crawlers, and no doubt countless others could do what I want - But I have no idea what will do it best

If anyone can offer some guidance of some sort, it would be most appreciated.

Thanks
James

I would think Mule or Rebel Yell for this.. I use Mules in my LP and play a variety of stuff from fairly clean indie-rock stuff (only do that in the cover band though, cant stand it any other time  ) to ACDC, GnR, and I've even played some Carcass with the LP before.

I guess if you get most of your gain from the amp or pedals, Mules are fine, but if you want to push the amp a bit more and have more brightness/mids, then the RY would work well. I'm actually contemplating trying my RY out in my Les Paul in place of the bridge Mule just to see how it sounds in comparison..
