I ended up with a Crawler in the Bridge Position of a Les Paul Custom.
I can only compare this to a 57 Classic Plus or Stock Gibson Pick-Up.
I play through a JTM45 with a 4X12 tall vintage (25 watt Greenbacks).
I also have the RS kit installed for electronics.  I would not classify the Crawlers as either Bright or Dark but in in my case it's more definition. The notes ring clear with ample sustain. This pick up is really responsive to picking dynamics. It can be mellow and jazzy as well as bluesy or heavy depending on how you attack. I know that it can cover the full range from twang to all out heavy distortion and does it well. For me and in this particular Guitar the Crawler works well.

Good Luck in your Search, it has taken me over 30 years but the journey is a Blast.
