got my Mule

Hi all, got my neck mule yesterday, fitted within an hour, sounding good, (but from clips I've heard) not as good as it could be. I've got an Epi Les Paul, just playing though a V-amp2 at the moment as my amps bust. The wiring in my LP is standard Epi (also probably not as good as it could be) do you think I should upgrade the pots and caps? Any recommendations.
Apologies if this should be under "Tech"

You'll notice the difference when you get to play through a proper amp, most guitars seem to sound very similar through the V-Amp 2 in my experience.

When I fitted BKP Humbuckers to my Les Paul and S.G. I replaced the 300k Volume and tone controls that were in there with CTS 500k ones plus I changed the weedy 0.22 microfarad ceramic disc capacitors with Sprague 'orange drops' of the same value.

This really optimised ( clarified but sweetened ) the sound  even with the existing pickups . When I then wired in the BKPs, I found it allowed the true headroom, sweetness and detail of the BKPs to shine through.

In short, the difference between Gibson Pickups and BKPs is much more dramatic with 500K pots and better caps.  :D

I upgraded my Les Paul with CTS pots and Hovland caps. It really brought out my Mules.

Before the upgrade I found my neck mule was too bassy which I like for clean but not dirty. Now it has the right balance to my ears. I really like the way my LP cleans up when I roll off the volume. I don't even switch to my clean channel that much anymore.

The Gibson pots and caps are pooh-pooh. I can compare cause I only upgraded one of my Les Pauls.

I'm really looking forward to upgrading my other LP with BK's, CTS pots, and Hovland caps.

please, do not make judgement of a proper pickup, solely on the premise of playing it through a modeler.

better quality hardware, will of course make it sound better, but not OMG I shiteMYPANTS good... that's what tube amps are for :D

Im really enjoying my Mule set. It does what i want it to and even better then wat i expected. It trully beat the Gibson pair i had in my SG hands down. Forget about the tone in my head for now, and really experimenting with the Mules and omg im just blown away. Its trully versatile and not at all a jack of all treade master of none. Even though the output is lesser then the Gibby pups i had in but omg it totally blew me away when i do Ozzy and Sabbath stuff. Riff are clearer and omg just sounds so much better. Word can never describe it. There was a noticeble diff when i played it through Peavey Bandit and way better when i headed down to the studio and fire it up with JCM 2000 and a JSX.  Next up is maybe a Crawler say in a PRS se singlecut or custom:D

Hmm, whilst we're on the subject, would it be worth changing out the pots and caps in my Epiphone for CTS 500k's and some of those orange drop caps?

it will be an improvement over the standard electronics...(i need to do this to my agile)

but it is also an improvement that a lot of people wont notice...just the perfectionists.
