Change of Tone vol pots
« on: June 21, 2007, 01:00:33 PM »
I am going to change my Pots for my SG and currently thinking of Experimenting with 250 vol 1meg tone. Other than the standard 500 vol /500 tone. What have you guys experiment with to gat that mojo tone. Mine is fitted with Alnico V Mule.

I also thought of ordering Stellartone Tonestyler. But this one here seems more interesting

I've tried my Mules with a 250K volume pot in my Strat before but didn't like the results, even without a tone pot. I can achieve a smoother tone with heavier strings (12's instead of 10's) but without sacrificing highs and dynamic range. I prefer the more open sound I get with a 500K volume pot. If I need more 'air' and a smoother attack, I lower the pickups and turn up the gain a little bit to compensate. BTW, the volume pot in my Artist is jumpered and wired so that it's variable between 720K and 220K and I definitely prefer the 500+ range to the lower settings.

well man im experimenting atm!!
i had basic pots in my jackson 1 vol 1 tone an booster.im changing them out for a 1meg vol pot and two 500k tone pots.my J is alder but is quite dark????? so i need to brighten up the sound.though if i keep the vol rolled down a wee tad  i think itll sound deadly, not too high but really letting my miracle man set sing.
ill let you know how it turns out as  im doing body work on her before i sway out th guts.

I am also thinking of getting RS Guitarworks Pots. Maybe the Hillbilly Channel Switchin' Kit or the Premium Vintage Electronics Upgrade Kit. The Paper and Oil GuitarCap by Jensen seems to make me interested as I have never tried any. Infact I have never upgraded the Pots of my Gibby SG. But I am looking to upgrade hoping to let justice be done to my mule set . It is already amazing but i believe it can do even better after upgrading pots.
