Warpig ceramic VS. Warpig (alnico V)
« on: June 10, 2007, 03:47:16 PM »
I am really interested in getting some Warpigs for my Strat, can anyone tell me the biggest tone or sound difference between pigs with alnico V and pigs with ceramic magnets? I want to have good tone for rhythm playing and still cut through with good definition on leads. I feel that the ceramics are maybe to extreme but I am not sure. What confuses me is that I play Hard Rock and Metal so I am really wanting to make the right choice. All I know is that I want the Warpigs, I am just confused as hell as to which pigs to obtain.

I'd go for the AV one unless you're into playing deadly tight, brutal, sterile evil death metal from hell.
I've tried both and i prefer the AV as it covers more territory, and the alnico magnet gives it an organic throaty growl which can't be achieved quite so well with a ceramic pup.

EDIT: also, read this from the man himself if you havent already done so http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8005

if you are familiar with the emg's......basically it is the same diff between the 81 and 85.....81=ceramic magnets,85=alnico magnets, both have the same output...ceramic magnets give a buttery/warm round sound, ceramic  aggressive and tight.Note that the ceramic warpig will be around 18k,the alnico will be around 22k

So Ceramic in the bridge, and alnico in the neck?
