i blame twilight odyssey for re-addicting me to dio. nevertheless, i can't get enough of his stuff at moment, listening to my collection obsessively - which is listed in the poll (i just brought the 1st rainbow album because of phillyq ;) ).

his lyrics are just so good.

anyway, this thread is to register your favourite dio studio album, and to discuss the more unusual ones worth checking out.

You're quite right, I should definately have included a 'other' option at least. Sorry about that   naturally though I didn't want to list his full discography. On the other hand, thanks for great tips for expanding my collection.

Myself, I cant choose between Holy Diver or Rising.

actually, i just picked 'rising' on impulse ;)

i'm a sucker for 70s style hard rock/metal cross over.

I voted Holy Diver of the ones listed, though I'd have voted for Dream Evil if it had been an option - mainly because the only time I saw Dio live was on the Dream Evil tour, ran out & bought the album soon after.  Craig Goldie's playing was unreal :)
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

:D Its Heaven & Hell for me by just a whisker from Rising. Dio is the ark type metal rock singer imho. if ever you need a singer in your metal band then Dio`s name allways crops up some where in the equation.

For what its worth i thought H & H totally transformed Sabbath. They never sounded so good either as a band or vocally. The wierd thing is Ozzy did his best work with the 1st 2 Blizzard albums !

Agree with JT, Heaven & Hell just ahead of Rising (although I like all the Dio-era Rainbow albums pretty much equally).

As for Dio the band, I prefer the albums with Vivian Campbell - Holy Diver has the best songs but Viv is really good on the other two.  Never liked Craig Goldy's playing, but Lock Up The Wolves with Rowan Robertson is good.  I haven't got the more recent stuff.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM
