Pickup recommendations for an Ibanez RG2550E please :)
« on: July 09, 2007, 12:17:38 AM »
Hey everyone, I've been considering getting a set of Bareknuckle Pickups for my Ibanez RG2550.
Basicly, I just need some general info on what pickups generate what kind of sounds/tones.
I play basicly every metal genre. Death/black/power/doom/prog/thrash etc etc.
So basicly, as high gain as I can get for the bridge humbucker is needed.. death metal is the genre I play most so we'll just base it as a death metal kinda guitar sound I'm going for then.
Bridge pickup, really high gain, but not muddy!, notes should be able to be heard nice and clear through my Dual Recto's high gain, and also palm mutes MUST be spectacular :)!
For the neck pickup I'd really want one with amazing tone and clarity for high speed shredding/sweeping.
I've been thinking about the Warpig calibrated set as supposedly that's the highest output humbuckers, but yeah that's just going from what I've heard. I don't know any definite info so that's where you guys can help me !
Oh yeah I nearly forgot, the middle pickup on my Ibanez.. hmm I'd want that to be for really nice cleans, for progressive metal type interludes and such, does anyone know what the best BKP would be for there? Or I could get a Lace single coil there for cleans.. general suggestions would be appreciated
So to sum it up!
- Which set of BKP humbuckers would be best for death metal but also have great tone?
- Any reccomendations for a single coil I can put in the middle?
Thanks!

Your prescription, sir:

Ceramic Warpig: You described it pretty much bang on.
Irish Tour: For cleans with enough drive and volume to ballance
Cold Sweat: Shred demon. Liquid mid sort of thing, very clear. Chimey cleans.

i agree with MDV, except for the neck
cold sweat is a hot PAF, but it's still a PAF
i love mine, but it's matched with a holy diver and i bet it wouldn't match my miracle man's output, cause even the MM neck (18k!! :o) isn't so strong as the bridge MM
my miracle man neck is too dark, and the warpig neck is supposed to be the same with different poles (and probably darker)
if you're going extreme in the bridge, you could try a neck painkiller (this will be my next neck BKP when i get a third guitar)
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

^ my cold sweat, if anything, is louder than my MM. The neck pickup's louder because of extra string vibration etc. You can adjust with pickup height at any rate...

Unless you mean overdrive, in which case the MM is indeed hotter, but it's not noticeable in terms of output/loudness.

Garg, that made about as much sense as a pokemon plot. you know what i mean, though.

I'd agree with others: Warpig in the bridge and Cold Sweat in the neck. Don't know too much about single coils but how about the Trilogy Suite?

MM in the Bridge ,and CS in the Neck...That delivers everything you need...Power ,precision ,and melting tone...MM is perfect for soloing too!

cs is more open than miracle man neck, but comparing to bridge it's ALMOST as loud as my bridge holy diver, and miracle man has a lot more output than it, so they won't have the same volume
as i said, cs neck is a hot PAF and doesn't have that level of output/volume
i'm not talking about tone, gain or sustain
the only passive neck pickup i remember being so loud that could match any powerful bridge pickup is gibson 496R, which is 9k, but ceramic, and that's why i'd recommend the neck painkiller

Sorry mate, but I have a CWP with a CS and the CS is, if anything, louder, and a very good match in subjective hotness.

^ i agree. and you can change the output a lot by adjusting the pickup heights.

in my ibanez, i have a (non-BKP) vintage-paf type neck pickup, and it's easily as loud, if not louder, than the modern output pickup in the bridge.
