Need assistance on HDTV Interference
« on: July 05, 2007, 08:21:56 PM »
Hi All,

I got an HDTV and all is well until I play a dvd.  I get interference on the screen.  They are like diagonal transparent bars going continuously up the screen.  from far back you cant see it but it is annoying to say the least.
these bars only show using component cables.  if i use a regular yellow rca it is gone, but the as we know, rca sucks for picture quality.  ive not tried the s-video since I do not have a cable.  this dvd does not have hdmi.  its a dvd slash home theater.
i even went out and bought a moster component cable for $100 and no difference, so I returned the cable and bought a monster power block.  i heard this helps but nothing.  i kept the block because its good to have.

any ideas?

should i take a q-tip and try to clean the inside on the component outputs? is so, what can i use that is around the house?

thanks

Sounds like noise. Did you try using a different source going into the same input? Have you tried using the DVD player with your other video sources turned off? Also, make sure the video cables are nowhere near your power cables. Lastly, make sure your DVD player isn't directly on top of anything like your CATV box, receiver, etc. The reverse is true, too.

Hi Ben,

If i unplug the components to the dvd and plug something else in its place i get no interference.
I do have my dvr cable box right next to the dvd player with the monter power block right behind them all.  I will try to re-arrange everything to see if it help.
i would think i would get the same interference using the regular rca on my dvd player, but i dont.

thanks!

Could be a cr@ppy component video output on your DVD player. But I would get the unit isolated to be 100% sure. You can try putting ferrite blockers on the cables, too.

you were right.  i basically disconnected everything from the surge except the tv and dvd.  no more lines!!
now to arrange it to stay that way...lol

i would have thought the $100 monster cable would have been shielded enuff to stop interference....

thanks ben!!
