So I've been looking into getting some new pickups for my strat, and so far I really like the warm, glassy sound of Sultans on clean.  What I'm wondering though is how much gain can they stomach before the definition melts?

Alternatively, can you get a similar clean tone out of hotter sets like the Trilogy if you roll the volume back?

I'm not looking for a ridiculous amount of gain.  Like 70's rock sort of levels.

Cheers!

I had the trilogy in the middle position on an ibanez rt and it got a really good clean sound. I used it a bit for a Hendrix type vibe. Not sure about the other single coils but you can check the Players section for clips. Here's a link to a clip of my Irish tour pickups with a bit of distortion on them.
