Yeah, should be true, but it seems to me sometimes it's the opposite - mass-produced Korean guitars may not have the greatest timbers or parts, but the quality control seems excellent. Whereas with Gibson and (less often) Fender the QC can be all over the place.
With anything made of inconsistent organic material like wood it's a gamble to buy blind, but you have to weigh up price vs (expected) quality control. I'll happily buy a sub-£500 guitar direct from Japan because I'm 95% sure it won't be a turkey, but never again will I buy a (US) Fender or Gibson without trying it first.
yep, that can sometimes be the case too. Maybe it has something to do with (a) not as high quality wood used in the first place which sounds similar and (b) not as high quality hardware and pickups which allow less of the natural wood tone to come through? Or maybe considering they generally use more pieces of wood in the body, the differences even out?
No idea, I'm just shamelessly making stuff up now. Some of the QC on the korean ibanezes is not so great, though.
:drink:
EDIT: lol at the turkey thing. I only got that now too after it was pointed out.
oh, and i ordered a plectrum (among other things, obviously) from a UK site not too long ago and got sent the wrong one...
