Quick clean clip of my strat + Laney
« on: August 14, 2007, 02:49:23 PM »
I never really played clean much before as I dont really like the sound of humbuckers unless theres a bit of crunch on the amp, but since I got my strat finished I tend to play clean/just a bit crunchy a lot. This clip also shows how versatile the Laney GH is, I had the preamp gain down on 4 and it gives a really nice clean with singlecoils. The setup was:

parts strat with BG Pickups v60s on neck+middle position (blasphemy you may say, but the set was the same price as 1 Bareknuckle and they sound stratty enough to me) straight into Laney GH50L, G12H speaker mic'd with an SM57. Added a bit of reverb in Reaper.

I know the playings a bit sloppy but try to ignore that :P

Nope, its a song by The Shadows and I thought this kinda tone was perfect for it. I just did a quick clip of the bridge + neck v60s as I've been trying to get the balance in volumes between the two right, I think I've got it now -

You should try the BBE Sonic stomp. I actually just tried one out today and I must admit that it is a fantastic pedal. It was so good that I bought it pretty much on the spot. It really makes playing clean much more enjoyable. It's like magic really  :D . I can't recommend it enough.

It's funny you ask that as I was just playing through my Quickrod

Long story short, through an effects chain (in front of the amp) its not much of a difference, but put it through a an effects loop and you can't help but grin. I have been feeling down on my tone lately, and while it's not quite where I want it yet, this pedal makes me want to play more and more. The difference is quite literally night and day.
