How to wire 4 conductor pickup as 2 conductor?
« on: September 15, 2007, 01:40:41 PM »
Hi Guys,

I got myself a secondhand pup which has 4 conductor wiring.  I'm never going to coil split or anything like that, so I was wondering how I would wire it as "standard"?  ie like braided 2 conductor?

Would I join the wires together to form 4, or just solder in the hot & the ground & leave the other 2 taped over?

Thanks alot!

If you're lucky, the two seperate coils that 'should' be taped together will already be taped up.  If so, leave them be - they don't get soldered anywhere.

You will then have a 'hot' connection plus another wire that goes to ground and additionally the bare shield wire that also goes to ground.

What pickup you got? - if you do a google search you'll get the wiring diagrams for any of the major pickup manufacturers.

Yes - but ensure that the two wires that are together are soldered together as well as taped over

Thanks for the advice guys!  There are indeed two wires which have been taped over.  I solder them together & add more tape.
Cheers!
