funny stuff here, but not sure in what spheres his solo is, did he listen to a different song on his walkman while playing this ?

Well, maybe it's art and one mustn't argue about it ... he remains to be my hero of all times anyways.

I think that Dazed and Confused clip is terrific, regardless of Relf's vocals.  And I'm impressed with Samwell-Smith and McCarty.

The Shapes Of Things solo is just bizarre though.

Anyone heard the Black Stone Cherry cover of Shapes?  They completely screw up the melody.  I like the rest of the album, but that track is terrible.

Not trying to start any heated debates but I prefered Beck to Clapton and Page in the Yardbirds. He played on all their major hits and his guitar work was ground breaking for the time as he tried to get away from the standard blues influenced solos.

This clip of the same song was a couple of years later with Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and my favourite rock piano player of all time Nicky Hopkins.

Now if you had said Zappa of Hendrix that would be a subject to discuss, in general any guitarist from the 60's/70's who wasnt playing stoned as hell didnt really get it. Being stoned makes you play so much better

Zappa never used drugs.  Are you saying he didn't "get it"?  :?

The Shape Of Things solo by Page is either the worst solo ever or total genius - I don't know which, heh

The version by The Jeff Beck Group is a million times better anyway... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CirDwohWt2s

He does, but Clapton doesn't act like a man trying to score points.  And he sings a great vocal - Beck can't do that.

It all evens out.

I was just making another pointless contribution since this is way to subjective to discuss, sorry if you though it was meant serious.

I didn't think it was meant seriously, just didn't understand the comment.  Sorry!  :)

I suffer from middle-age - seems to produce a similar effect.  My brain certainly doesn't function as well as it once did.  Now what was I saying... ?
