BKP Suggestions for Wenge
« on: July 14, 2011, 06:23:52 PM »
Hello, this is my first post here.  I have a custom 7 string that is almost entirely wenge with a Lundgren M7 Neck and Bridge.  I love the sound of the Wenge neck/body it has a very full low and mid with a slightly muted high.  The M7s are incredible pickups, however they are a bit hot and too saturated for me.  I LOVE how they handle low palm mutes, however the cleans are average at best and they don't contain good chord definition.  I play all over the place from Djent to Technical Death Metal to Jazz Fusion and was wanting a bridge pickup that is extremely articulate with fast 8th note type playing while being reasonably high output to handle distorted palm mutes.  on the Neck pickup side I was looking for something that is very liquidy and high enough output for legato playing.  From what I see and hear, It seems as if an Aftermath in the bridge and Cold Sweat in the neck would be good options, am I on the right track?

For the sound you're looking for, I believe these would be good options for you. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the "tinny" sound that the cold sweat pickup has on cleans, but coupled with the aftermath it may even out the tone, especially if you're a djent fan, since the aftermath has just a "djenty" sound if you will. These two pickups may also balance the intense mids that wenge wood is known for. However, I must also note that I'm a big fan of M7's and that you would be hard-pressed to find something more suitable to your needs. But welcome to the site and good luck!
